A 'final' Jimmy Nail show is announced for Gateshead with tickets on sale now. Jimmy Nail has added a fifth Gateshead date to his upcoming tour due to "phenomenal" demand for tickets, which the Geordie star says he finds "gratifying and humbling". The extra show also marks a first for The Glasshouse, which adds it is the nearest it has come to having a residency. The actor, singer and writer has been on a roll ever since he announced a series of other local shows last July, when it was revealed that he would be bringing the spirit of his nineties TV series Crocodile Shoes to life on stage. And fans proved only too eager to see Nail back in action. In the Crocodile Shoes show, Nail - whose other screen successes include TV hit Auf Wiedersehen, Pet; Spender and his role opposite Madonna's Eva Peron in 1996 film Evita - was joined by fellow musicians in playing the cowboy music-theme soundtrack of the BBC drama. It was a sell-out hit at Live Theatre in Newcastle where the December show - a forerunner to plans for a stage musical - added date after date to meet demand, with a run continuing into January. And there then came news of the tour of a new show - Stories and Songs - for 2026, to include a stop-off over the river at The Glasshouse in Gateshead - and the venue soon experienced a similar situation, with initial plans for one show rapidly increasing. In Stories and Songs, Nail - whose music hits include Ain’t No Doubt; Love Don’t Live Here Anymore and Geordie favourite, the beautiful Big River - will be giving a personal insight into his career with a hand-picked mix of tunes, memories and rarely-seen images. Again fans rushed to buy tickets for a chance to see him at the music centre on the banks of that Big River, so the first show date, October 11, was quickly followed by the addition of a second performance - a matinee on the same day, then came two more: on October 12 and 13. Now with a fifth "and final" date added, tickets are already on sale. This is to be Tuesday, November 3, marking what The Glasshouse calls "an unprecedented run" for the venue, with the originally-planned one-off show sparking "phenomenal demand". Wendy Smith, its creative director, said: "In 21 years of The Glasshouse, we've never had an artist sell out four consecutive shows and now we’re adding a fifth - but then, this is Jimmy Nail. This is the closest to an artist residency than we've ever had and we are delighted to host Jimmy. When we announced the first date, it was gone in a flash so we added another - and another. At some point you stop being surprised and just feel incredibly proud that our audiences have that kind of love for Jimmy and that he wanted to come home to Gateshead to share these shows with them. There's nowhere better to hear a life story than here and few better storytellers than Jimmy Nail. Nail will be joined on stage by long-time collaborator Tony Davis playing keyboards and accordion to add extra atmosphere to the shows which are described as stripped-back, intimate performances capturing the journey of his long career. Nail said: “As well as being a pleasure to make my return to The Glasshouse in Gateshead and play such a cool venue, this unprecedented five-date run is, on a personal level, gratifying and humbling." In a message to fans, he added: "I’m planning one or two surprises for these unique occasions and look forward to seeing you all in a few months’ time.” Sharing news of the extra date this Wednesday, promoters said they are "excited to announce a fifth and FINAL Jimmy Nail show". Tickets - and there is also still some limited availability for the October 13 date - cost £44.56. There is also a meet-and-greet option for £98.47.
