About

Scottish rockers Primal Scream have announced a new UK tour to perform a hit 2000 album in full and Newcastle fans will be among those to hear it. The band, founded by frontman Bobby Gillespie in 1982, will be taking to the road this autumn and NX Newcastle is included among just six just-announced show dates. The XTRMNTR Tour is named after the band's sixth album which was released in the Millennium year - the title being Exterminator with the vowels removed - and it saw them take a more political stance. The tour is set to meet the 'huge demand' from fans to hear the album live in its entirety, say organisers, following the band's special 25th anniversary performance of it in London last year. At that Roundhouse gig, Primal Scream sparked controversy with the screening of a video during their 2000 song Swastika Eyes which showed the image of a swastika inside a Star of David, superimposed over the eyes of figures such as Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US president Donald Trump. The video also showed images of Gaza. The host venue said afterwards it was "appalled" while the band, defending accusations of antisemitism, said the film was a piece of art drawing from history to question current actions of world governments, adding: “It is meant to provoke debate, not hate." Tickets for XTRMNTR Tour will go on sale at 10am this Friday, April 17. The tour will kick off with two homecoming shows in Glasgow on September 3 and 4 then the Newcastle date will be next on September 8.
