The Strokes announce first ever Newcastle gig on upcoming UK tour
About
New York indie darlings The Strokes have announced their first ever Newcastle gig later this year. The Julian Casablancas-fronted band play the Utilita Arena on Sunday, October 25, between dates in London and Manchester. The tour marks the upcoming seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, the band's first release in six years. It also marks the 25th anniversary of huge breakthrough album Is This It?, which is credited for sparking a revival in guitar music in the US and UK during the 2000s with songs such as Last Nite, Someday and Hard to Explain. They will be supported on the Newcastle date by Alex Cameron and Fat White Family. Other support acts expected include Thundercat and Cage the Elephant. The tour announcement comes after the Strokes debuted new single Going Shopping at a gig in San Francisco, before performing it at Coachella on Saturday. Three customers can access tickets via the Three+ app from Wednesday, April 15 at 10am. Members of the Utilita Arena Web Club can access tickets in a venue presale from Thursday, April 16 at 10am. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, April 17 at 10am via Ticketmaster, Live Nation and others. The Strokes' announcement comes as Jack White, formerly of the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather, will play his first Newcastle gig in August.
